Jewelry designer Laura Munder has spent a lifetime in the jewelry business. As the daughter of a renowned diamond expert, Laura quickly learned the skill of distinguishing remarkable stones and the talent to delicately mold them into works of art. Her jewelry's extravagant use of colorful gemstones, unusual cuts and unique settings have garnered loyalty from serious collectors.
Laura's appeal to clients has been fueled by an artistic and fashion-driven approach to designing. Stones are found all around the world. Being a long-time jewelry collector and jewelry lover herself, Laura relies heavily on her craft and design philosophy to continuously produce fresh, youthful pieces that she would want to have and wear. Her new collection includes many one-of-a-kind pieces made with mandarin garnet, a rare stone available in extremely limited quantities. Other designs for fall include the use of pale pink opal, Peruvian blue opal, and peach-toned angel skin coral with diamonds. A striking addition to the collection is the use of blackened gold in combination with diamonds, mandarin garnet, sapphires and tourmalines. "The blackening of gold represents the sense of old-world style, while the introduction of the colored gemstones produces a fresh and modern look," says Laura.
The style of the Laura Munder Fine Jewelry Collection has quickly been embraced by the national media. Recently, Women's Wear Daily identified Laura as one of the industry's newest designers to contribute to the rise of branded jewelry. Pieces from Laura's collection regularly grace the editorial pages of national fashion publications such as Vogue, Town and Country, Harper's Bazaar, W, Women's Wear Daily, InStyle, Glamour, and The New York Times.
Hollywood has also been very good to Laura Munder, as many celebrities have been spotted around town in her designs, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Jada Pinkett Smith, Eva Mendes, Carmen Electra, Anne Hathaway, Mischa Barton, Gena Rowlands and Molly Simms.
In her much lauded ad campaign, Laura Munder shows the fashion world an entirely new and appropriately more sophisticated concept of "wearable art." With the heading "Accessorize Accordingly," each ad features a piece of fine jewelry next to the designer modeling an abstract gown or other article of clothing created from the same bejeweled "fabric." "It's a campaign that combines abstract art with fashion and fine jewelry," states designer Laura Munder.
Fall 2005 marked the next step for this company that has been growing by leaps and bounds since its conception in 1998: the first free-standing Laura Munder Boutique opened on prestigious Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, FL. When asked why she had selected Palm Beach to open her first boutique, Laura responded: "Palm Beach is where I live and I am very involved in the community. Jewelry lovers from around the world come here to add to their jewelry wardrobe. We are well established in the industry, we are ready, and Palm Beach is the logical next step. I plan to be very hands-on and present in the store regularly."
After three successful years in Palm Beach, Laura expanded again, but this time she went back to her roots. In Spring 2008, Laura launched her entrée into the Nantucket area by opening a second boutique on this unique and charming island. Growing up in Boston, she has always had a special affinity for Nantucket and is very excited for her first expansive venture to be near her hometown.
"When I first began my business ten years ago, Nantucket was one of the first locations I explored. I was very successful doing shows there, in part because I grew up in that market and already had a following. An amazing opportunity presented itself to open a small boutique in Nantucket, and I simply couldn't refuse! The transition is seamless and the timing allows me to present a broad collection in Nantucket while my store in Palm Beach is closed for the summer. I feel a genuine connection to Nantucket and I am looking forward to spending time there and being creatively inspired by it, as well," says Laura.
The Laura Munder precious jewelry collection is currently available at the Laura Munder Palm Beach Boutique, Laura Munder Nantucket Boutique and select Neiman Marcus stores nationwide.
